How to become a Spotter?

The National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio conducts numerous SKYWARN weather spotter training classes each spring. The classes are from the end of January through May each year. We try to hold one class in as many counties as possible.

To become a SKYWARN spotter, you must attend one of these training sessions. You are encouraged to pre-register. You will be enrolled in the SKYWARN program at the training class. You will be issued a spotter number and given spotter information.

Once you've become a SKYWARN spotter then you must attend a training class at least every 2 to 3 years to retain your spotter status.

Training dates, locations and times are posted on our web page. The spring schedule is normally posted in late winter. Check our spotter class schedule for the training nearest you.

Thank you for your interest in the SKYWARN program. I hope to see you at one of our training sessions.
